Building Hope: Action Mechanical’s Work with Children’s Home Society of South Dakota

 – By

Children Home Society of South Dakota in Rapid City building

At Action Mechanical, we believe in more than just pipes and blueprints—we believe in people. Whether it’s our team members showing up with decades of experience or our community partners working together to build something meaningful, every project is a chance to make a difference.

That’s why we’re proud to be part of Phase 1 of the new facility for the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota—a place that’s been a cornerstone of care and support for children and families in our region.

A Project with Purpose

This exciting new build includes a kitchen, gymnasium, classroom, and expanded space designed to better serve the children and staff for years to come. It’s more than just a construction site—it’s a symbol of growth, healing, and hope.

Hear from Larry Baker, our Field Operations Manager, as he shares what this project means to him and to Action Mechanical:

We’re grateful to be working alongside incredible partners like Gustafson Builders, Heavy Constructors, Inc., Electrical Construction, and G&R Controls—each bringing their expertise and heart to the table.

Employee Spotlight: Shannon Sailor

Some projects come full circle—and for Shannon Sailor, this one certainly has. Shannon has been with Action Mechanical for 26 years, and he was part of the original rebuild over 15 years ago. Now, he’s back on-site as we kick off Phase 1 of this new chapter.

His dedication and craftsmanship are a testament to the kind of people who make Action Mechanical what it is: a team that shows up, sticks around, and builds with purpose.

Welcome to the Team: Chad Lais

We’re also thrilled to welcome Chad Lais as our new Service Manager! Chad brings a wealth of experience in HVAC and plumbing, having run his own company in Colorado before relocating to the Black Hills. His decision to join Action Mechanical speaks volumes—and we’re honored to have him on board.

Chad’s leadership and technical expertise will be a huge asset as we continue to grow and serve our clients with excellence.

Built to Serve

At Action Mechanical, we’re proud of the work we do—but even more proud of why we do it. From community projects like the Children’s Home Society to welcoming new talent and celebrating long-time team members, we’re committed to building a better future—one job, one person, one partnership at a time.
