Keep the air you breathe cleaner, and safer, with air ionization.

 – By

If the year 2020 has taught us anything thus far, it’s that we could all use a little reassurance of our own personal safety. There is no more obvious place to start than by ensuring that the air we breathe is clean, free of pathogens, and safe for ourselves, our friends and colleagues, and our families. It’s quite literally our most valuable asset. So how can we protect it?

Air Ionizers: What do they do?

An air ionizer purifies the air in a room by electrically charging air molecules. Many air purifiers use fans and filters to remove contaminants from the air. Air ionizers use ions to remove particulates, microbes, and odors from the air. This makes the air in a room healthier for people to breathe, especially for people suffering from allergies, asthma, and other respiratory-related ailments. This of course being especially important in the current times we’re living in.

How do they work?

Without getting too scientific, we’ll explain how this process works: Air ionizers rely on the chemical properties of ions. An ion is a negatively or positively charged particle. What does an ionizer do? Air ionizers create negative ions using electricity and then discharge them into the air. These negative ions attach to positively charged particles in the room, such as dust, bacteria, pollen, smoke, and other allergens. The positively charged particles and negative ions bond together to create dense dirt particles. This results in the particles becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air, and causes them to fall to the ground, or onto surfaces that are swept up or cleaned during regular home or office cleaning. This also makes maintenance of your air purifier virtually non-existent.

What are the benefits?

We’ve already mentioned the benefits that air ionizers can have for those with allergies, asthma, and respiratory ailments, so who else can benefit from installing an air ionizer system in their home or office? The short answer is, well, everyone. Let us explain:

The air around us, in our everyday surroundings, is generally filled with positive ions. They are far more common in our environment than negative ions. Despite their name, “positive” ions are anything but a positive occurrence. They are a contributing factor in fatigue, hypertension, and tend to be a driving force in exacerbating bad moods. All of which have a negative effect on our overall health.

Negative ions on the other hand, do the exact opposite. They help rejuvenate us, and tend to enhance our moods. A perfect example of this, is the great outdoors. In areas such as the mountains, lakes, nature trails, and nature in general, the presence of negative ions is much greater than in places of high traffic, pollution, and activity. That’s why we always feel a bit more euphoric and fresher when we get out into those environments. You probably don’t think about it, but that feeling you get when taking a shower, that rush of rejuvenation, is due to getting a sudden rush of negative ions. That fresh air feeling that you get following a thunderstorm? Negative ions are to thank for that as well.

So, the next time you find yourself about to say to someone, “you need to get some fresh air”, you may choose to say, “go get some negative ions”. You’ll sound like a scientist, and people love science!

As you can see, besides the obvious benefit of removing toxins, odors, viruses, mold, and more, ionizers can contribute to achieving better overall health. Let’s put together a short bullet list:

  • Clear the air of airborne allergens, such as viruses, dander, and mold.
  • Promote relaxation
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Decrease irritability
  • Improve sleep
  • Remove static electricity
  • Improve your mood

Additionally, studies are currently being conducted, with positive results, that negative ions can be a big help in relieving depressive symptoms. Although the results of these studies are still in the preliminary stage, the outlook is positive for those who experience seasonal depression or mood disorders.

Action Mechanical is proud to partner with Global Plasma Solutions in bringing you advanced, yet simple systems for your residential or commercial space.
